No direct sun expected today, with light air out of the W with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Patterson Lake should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. The productive run goes afternoon into evening. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Patterson Lake is one of the Algoma waters in Ontario. It lies 423 metres above sea level. At about 49 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The margin runs to about 5.1 km in total. Start from Sault Ste. Marie, 77 km down the road. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 264 km away. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Algoma: walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Patterson Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -13°C on the long-run figures. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. At Patterson Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Carpenter Lake at 2.4 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Patterson Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
