Glare on the water under a clear sky, with a steady W wind with a settled glass. Doctor Lake should fish best around the calm side of the wind today. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Doctor Lake sits within Parry Sound District in Ontario. It lies 221 metres above sea level. At roughly 8 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Around 2.5 km of margin, front to back. Most waters listed here for Parry Sound District are larger. The town to know is Parry Sound, 43 km out. South River follows at 64 km, then Powassan at 74 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Parry Sound District cover smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, northern pike and rock bass. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Read Doctor Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Typical July readings run about 19°C; by January the average is down near -10°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. Ice clears near mid April and comes back about early December in a typical year. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. At Doctor Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Granite Lake is 1.6 km distant. Nothing on Doctor Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
