Clear overhead with good moonlight, with a firm WNW blow and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Derry Lake should be near shallow cover and weed edges. No standout window; expect steady, modest action. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Set in Kenora District, Derry Lake is an Ontario water. It sits in lake country bush. At about 21 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 3.0 km of margin, front to back. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Kenora District. For supplies, Vermilion Bay is 66 km out. Beyond it, Kenora at 71 km and Emo at 77 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Kenora District records list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Read Derry Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Expect July to average close to 19°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. That shapes the year on Derry Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Stephen Lake is 2 km off. Rules at Derry Lake are worth checking on the day.
