Overcast skies today, with a gentle ripple from the S and pressure going nowhere. Give bays that hold the day's warmth the first hour at Dennies Lake. The morning carries the best of the day. Ride the conditions while they last. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Dennies Lake is one of the Frontenac County waters in Ontario. It sits at 272 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 14 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Some 22 km away sits Sharbot Lake, the nearest settlement. Then Perth, 52 km, and Tweed, 57 km. Water in the same corner: Malcolm Lake (1.9 km), Pine Lake at about 2 km, Youngs Lake (2.5 km), Mosquito Lake at about 4.6 km and Swaugers Lake (5 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Frontenac County: pumpkinseed, bluegill, rock bass and smallmouth bass. The county list is broader than any single water. Work Dennies Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Climate normals give 19°C for July and -11°C for January. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Count the season from break-up, usually mid April. From about mid April to around early December, expect open water on the long-run figures. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. That is the shape of the year on Dennies Lake.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. For a change of water, Malcolm Lake is 1.9 km distant. Treat Dennies Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
