A grey, even sky over the water, with a steady WSW wind with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Dempster Lake should come off structure within a cast of the bank. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Sudbury entry here is Dempster Lake, in Ontario. The setting is taiga on every side. It measures about 17 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge runs 3.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The town to know is Chapleau, 26 km out. Then Wawa, 127 km, and Timmins, 144 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Sudbury cover smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Dempster Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Plan around that when you fish Dempster Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Roswell Lake, 1.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Dempster Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
