A mixed sky through the night, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. The productive water at Cedric Lake will be around reed fringes and open pockets. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Cedric Lake is one of the Sudbury listings for Ontario. The country round it is boreal forest from end to end. The water covers some 21 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The full circuit measures close to 2.7 km on foot. Chapleau lies 30 km from the water. Further out sit Wawa (130 km) and Timmins (139 km). It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Our records hold no depth for this water. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Sudbury records list smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Fish Cedric Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The warm month here averages 17°C; the cold one sits at -16°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The water is typically free of ice between late April and mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Cedric Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Roy Lake, 1.5 km away. Check the position at Cedric Lake before loading the car.
