A closed sky with even light today, with a mirror surface most of the day and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Day Lake should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. One clear peak today: the evening. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Set in Parry Sound District, Day Lake is an Ontario water. What surrounds it is lake country bush. It covers about 9 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Parry Sound District. Parry Sound is the closest town at 29 km. Huntsville follows at 36 km, then Bracebridge at 48 km. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Parry Sound District records list smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Day Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The warmest month averages 19°C, the coldest about -10°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid April until roughly early December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Expect Day Lake to follow that timing.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Jelso Lake, 1.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Day Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
