Rain moving through today, with flat calm through the day with the glass holding level. Currie Lake should fish best around the calm side of the wind today. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Currie Lake falls in Cochrane District, part of Ontario. The ground round it is spruce and muskeg. Around 50 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The whole outline is near 3.4 km, and most of it is walkable. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. 39 km away sits Kapuskasing, the nearest town. Further out sit Smooth Rock Falls (45 km) and Cochrane (93 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Cochrane District include northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker and Iowa darter. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Fish Currie Lake to its features, not to its size.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -19°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Currie Lake.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Sawyer Lake at 9.9 km is the sensible second choice. The position on Currie Lake is worth confirming on the day.
