Solid cloud cover today, with a light W breeze and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Contact Lake should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Contact Lake belongs to Timiskaming District, Ontario. It sits at 393 metres above sea level. Surface area runs to about 8 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Capreol at 78 km is the nearest place to stop. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 102 km away. Not far off: Togo Lake within 1.2 km, Theodore Lake 1.3 km away, Mooserun Lake within 1.4 km, Pack Lake 1.8 km away and McKee Lake within 2.2 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. At Contact Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -16°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Expect Contact Lake to follow that timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Failing this one, try Togo Lake, 1.2 km away. For Contact Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
