Damp, showery conditions today, with just enough SSE wind to ripple the surface and pressure sitting still. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Code Lake. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Code Lake belongs to Parry Sound District, Ontario. It sits at 214 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 21 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. A shoreline of some 3.8 km keeps the choices simple. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. Head to Parry Sound, 22 km away, for anything you forgot. Penetanguishene follows at 45 km, then Bracebridge at 47 km. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Parry Sound District include smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Work Code Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The warmest month averages 19°C, the coldest about -9°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Break-up comes around mid April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Averages suggest open water from about mid April through to roughly early December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Code Lake rarely departs from it.
Access is not recorded for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A marina 1.1 km from here covers launching and moorings. Public data records a pier about 1.1 km out. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Failing this one, try Fogal Lake, 0.9 km away. Rules at Code Lake are worth checking on the day.
