Stars out and no cloud tonight, with a whisper of wind from the W and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Bottle Lake around the shaded margin through bright spells. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Bottle Lake is an Algoma water, in Ontario. Everything around it is taiga. The water covers some 14 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Bank access stretches around 2.2 km in total. Our Algoma list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest place of any size is Wawa, 71 km away. Manitouwadge lies 78 km off, Hornepayne another 82 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Survey and observation records for Algoma include walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Read Bottle Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. On Bottle Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Mud Lake sits 1 km off and takes the overflow. Signs at Bottle Lake carry more weight than any list.
