No direct sun expected today, with a firm WNW blow and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Berube Lake along the calm side of the wind. A stay-home graph, with the morning as the one excuse to go. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Berube Lake lies within the bounds of Kenora District, Ontario. The ground around here is northern bush. The water covers some 20 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. There is roughly 1.7 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Our Kenora District list holds plenty of bigger water. Greenstone is the closest town at 299 km. For a city, Thunder Bay is 431 km off. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Kenora District, recorded fish include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. The shape of Berube Lake decides where the fish sit.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -22°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly early November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Berube Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Pattle Lake at 7.7 km is the sensible second choice. For Berube Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
