A grey, even sky over the water, with a useful WNW wind pushing food about and steady pressure. Most of the action on Bee Lake should come off the calm side of the wind. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Bee Lake lies in Rainy River District, Ontario. The surroundings are pine and birch. Surface area is around 38 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Atikokan at 38 km is the nearest place to stop. For a city, Thunder Bay is 200 km off. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules. The character changes with the season more than with the year.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Species logged across Rainy River District include northern pike, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and walleye. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Bee Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Bee Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Badwater Lake is 1 km off. Treat access at Bee Lake as something to verify.
