Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a busy WNW wind on the open water and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Barse Lake will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. The day holds up well from morning through afternoon. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Barse Lake lies in Nipissing District, in Ontario. The bank is 211 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 28 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Around 3.2 km of margin, front to back. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Ontario listings. Callander at 19 km is the nearest place to stop. For a city, Greater Sudbury is 144 km off. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Open biodiversity records for Nipissing District list smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. The shape of Barse Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Averages here run 19°C at the top of summer and -13°C at the bottom of winter. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly early December. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. On Barse Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Froggy Lake sits 1.2 km off and takes the overflow. The position on Barse Lake is worth confirming on the day.
