Showers crossing the water today, with a mirror surface most of the day and pressure going nowhere. Activity on Badshaw Lake should centre on the seam between weed and open water. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Badshaw Lake lies in Sudbury, Ontario. It lies 405 metres above sea level. Around 20 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Shoreline comes to about 2.7 km, small enough to learn in a day. The closest town, Chapleau, is 47 km distant. Then Wawa, 67 km, and Hornepayne, 139 km. Close by you also have: Ward Lake sits 4.5 km out, Delmage Lake at 5.2 km, Madge Lake sits 5.7 km out, Burnt Lake at 6.3 km and Maki Lake sits 6.3 km out. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Sudbury, recorded fish include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Badshaw Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan any trip to Badshaw Lake around it.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Ward Lake, 4.5 km away. Check the position at Badshaw Lake before loading the car.
