A still, cloudless night on the water, with flat calm through the day and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Aramis Lake should come off shallow cover and weed edges. The best of it runs afternoon into evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for Aramis Lake in the Rainy River District part of Ontario. Height above sea level is 434 metres. About 1.24 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. Shoreline length is close to 10.0 km, and each section fishes a little differently. It is high ground by Ontario standards. The closest town, Atikokan, is 18 km distant. Thunder Bay sits 162 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Reported across Rainy River District: northern pike, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and walleye. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Aramis Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 18°C in July. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Expect Aramis Lake to follow that timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A picnic area is mapped about 980 m away. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Nickleby Lake, 2.5 km out. Signs at Aramis Lake carry more weight than any list.
