Open sky and sharp air tonight, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Almonte Lake is the shaded margin through bright spells. The productive run goes the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Almonte Lake in Algoma, Ontario. Country round the bank runs to pine and birch. The water covers some 75 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Some 7.5 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. The town to know is Wawa, 30 km out. For a city, Greater Sudbury is 312 km off. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
We hold no depth figure for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch among the fish reported. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Almonte Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The warm month here averages 16°C; the cold one sits at -14°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. That is the shape of the year on Almonte Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows a campsite some 530 m from the water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Should this one be busy, Dossier Lake is 3.3 km off. What applies at Almonte Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
