Dull, settled light over the water, with a faint SW drift and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Rush Lake should hold close to the calm side of the wind. Everything points to the middle of the day. Give the likely spots time before moving. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Nova Scotia holds Rush Lake, in Yarmouth County. The country here is rolling bush. The water measures roughly 7 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. It is a small entry by Yarmouth County standards. Digby sits 51 km from the bank. The big place round here is Halifax, 169 km distant. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Public occurrence data for Yarmouth County names American eel, yellow perch, Atlantic salmon and white perch. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Work Rush Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and February about -5°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. Averages suggest open water from about mid April through to roughly mid December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. That is the shape of the year on Rush Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. For a change of water, Rockyshore Lake is 2.8 km distant. Signs at Rush Lake carry more weight than any list.
