An even grey lid over the water, with mild air moving in from the ESE and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Pot Lake along structure within a cast of the bank. The day peaks in the evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Halifax Regional Municipality entry here is Pot Lake, in Nova Scotia. The water sits 141 metres up. At roughly 3 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Halifax Regional Municipality. Nearest town is Stewiacke, 36 km off. Further out sit Bible Hill (38 km) and Truro (39 km). A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Records held for Halifax Regional Municipality cover brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt and American eel. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Pot Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Between January at about -7°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Ice is part of the season here, ending near mid April. Averages place the thaw at mid April and the freeze at mid December. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. The season on Pot Lake rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Fishing from a pier is possible 1.3 km away. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Mill Lake is 1.1 km off. Treat Pot Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
