A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with mild air moving in from the ESE with the barometer flat. Fish at Mill Lake should hold close to points where shallow meets deep. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Mill Lake lies within the bounds of Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. It sits at 123 metres above sea level. Roughly 1.16 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. There is roughly 12 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Size puts it in the front rank of our Halifax Regional Municipality list. For supplies, Stewiacke is 35 km out. Bible Hill is 38 km and Truro 39 km. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Halifax Regional Municipality include brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt and American eel. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Mill Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Expect July near 18°C and January near -7°C on the long-run figures. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly mid December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. At Mill Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public data records a pier about 220 m out. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Pot Lake, 1.1 km away. Nothing on Mill Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
