Solid cloud cover today, with a kind SW breeze on the water with the barometer flat. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Little Whitford Lake. Save your energy for the middle of the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Little Whitford Lake is one of the Lunenburg County waters in Nova Scotia. The water sits 49 metres up. Around 36 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The full circuit measures close to 3.7 km on foot. The town to know is Chester, 12 km out. Stillwater Lake lies 26 km off, Hubley another 27 km. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Survey and observation records for Lunenburg County include American eel, Atlantic whitefish, smallmouth bass and striped bass. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Work Little Whitford Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in August and bottom out at -5°C in January. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around mid December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. That shapes the year on Little Whitford Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Whistler Lake, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Little Whitford Lake.
