Flat light and a covered sky today, with a whisper of wind from the ESE with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Lawlor Lake is the first drop-off and weed lines. The evening carries the best of the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

You will find Lawlor Lake in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The bank is 124 metres above sea level. You can fish the entire water from one spot if you pick it well. It is a small entry by Halifax Regional Municipality standards. The nearest town is Musquodoboit Harbour, 45 km away. The nearest city of size is Dartmouth, 81 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Across Halifax Regional Municipality, recorded fish include brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt, American eel and Atlantic salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lawlor Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Expect August to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -6°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid April. The season between ice runs from about mid April to mid December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Anyone fishing Lawlor Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Brandon Lake sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lawlor Lake in what we hold.
