Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with light air out of the NNW with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Gaspereau Lake should be near the shaded margin through bright spells. The strongest window is the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Gaspereau Lake is a Digby County water, in Nova Scotia. Salt water lies 5.6 km off. Surface area runs to roughly 1.43 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. The edge covers about 15 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. On our Digby County list it sits near the top for size. The town to know is Yarmouth, 31 km out. The nearest city of size is Halifax, 211 km away. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Digby County records list alewife, Atlantic salmon, American shad, American eel and blueback herring among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Gaspereau Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The seasonal spread runs -4°C to 17°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early April. In an average year the thaw lands around early April and the freeze near late December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Gaspereau Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac a Pecee sits 2.6 km off and takes the overflow. Rules at Gaspereau Lake are worth checking on the day.
