No direct sun expected today, with a faint SSW drift and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Heron Lake along points where shallow meets deep. Save your energy for the middle of the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Heron Lake lies within the bounds of Digby County, Nova Scotia. This is rolling hill ground. About 10 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. The bank runs about 1.7 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Our Digby County list holds plenty of bigger water. The town to know is Yarmouth, 37 km out. The big place round here is Halifax, 207 km distant. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Digby County include alewife, Atlantic salmon, American shad and American eel. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Anyone new to Heron Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Long-term averages put August at about 17°C and January near -4°C. Ice comes and goes from one year to the next. It should never be assumed safe, whatever the month says. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. At Heron Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
We hold no note on access for this one. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Third Lake, 1.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Heron Lake as something to verify.
