Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with a gentle ripple from the W and pressure going nowhere. Duck Lake should fish best around points where shallow meets deep today. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Duck Lake is a Lunenburg County water, in Nova Scotia. The bank is 141 metres above sea level. Small at around 8 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Chester lies 26 km from the water. After that come Mahone Bay at 27 km and Bridgewater at 34 km. Not far off: Haddock Lake within 1.5 km, Hawk Lake 1.6 km away, Otter Lake within 1.8 km, Bear Marsh Lake 2.2 km away and Lenihan Lake within 2.4 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Lunenburg County include American eel, Atlantic whitefish, smallmouth bass, striped bass and white perch. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Duck Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -6°C at the bottom of winter. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid April. In an average year the thaw lands around mid April and the freeze near mid December. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. It holds true on Duck Lake more years than not.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Haddock Lake sits 1.5 km off and takes the overflow. For Duck Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
