Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a light chop building from the ESE and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Cornings Lake will be around the seam between weed and open water. The forecast backs the stretch from the day. Ride the conditions while they last. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Cornings Lake is one of the Digby County waters in Nova Scotia. The surface lies 27 metres up. It measures about 64 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Roughly 5.0 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. On our Digby County list it sits near the top for size. Yarmouth at 24 km is the nearest place to stop. The nearest city of size is Halifax, 210 km away. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
We hold no depth figure for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Digby County include alewife, Atlantic salmon and American shad. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Cornings Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The range across the year is -4°C to 17°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Winter locks it down, and early April brings it back. Ice usually gives way near early April, and forms again about late December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Cornings Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Churchills Lake at 2.2 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position at Cornings Lake before loading the car.
