Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a kind WSW breeze on the water and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Boot Lake should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. Everything points to the middle of the day. Give the likely spots time before moving. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Boot Lake in the Kings County part of Nova Scotia. Everything around it is mixed forest. At about 16 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 2.8 km of margin, front to back. It is high ground by Nova Scotia standards. Start from Greenwood, 16 km down the road. Dartmouth is the closest city, 97 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Across Kings County, recorded fish include Atlantic salmon, striped bass, brook trout, brown trout and American eel. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. At Boot Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Seasonal averages run from -6°C in January up to 18°C in July. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid April. Ice usually gives way near mid April, and forms again about mid December. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. That is the shape of the year on Boot Lake.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. The nearest alternative is Tomahawk Lake, 1.4 km out. Nothing on Boot Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
