Dull, settled light over the water, with light air out of the S and pressure sitting still. Expect most activity at Point Lake around windblown banks where food collects. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cold hands, careful casts: precision is everything today.

North Slave Region, Northwest Territories, is where Point Lake sits. It lies 493 metres above sea level. At 976.92 sq km you are fishing a fraction of it whatever you do. The outline is heavily broken, with arms and bays reaching well back from the main body. Of the waters listed here in North Slave Region, this is the largest. Kugluktuk lies 300 km from the water. Behchokǫ̀ follows at 308 km, then Yellowknife at 317 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Public occurrence data for North Slave Region names Arctic grayling, lake trout and slimy sculpin. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Read Point Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Expect July near 11°C and January near -29°C on the long-run figures. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Once it clears, about mid June, the fishing comes on quickly. On the long-run averages the water opens up around mid June and starts locking again about mid October. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. At Point Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Max Ward Lake is 39 km off. Confirm before you fish Point Lake.
