Mist hanging over the margins today, with just enough SW wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Portey Pond around the margins and any overhead cover. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

In New Brunswick, Portey Pond belongs to Westmorland County. It stands 37 metres above sea level. Small at around 3 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Westmorland County list holds plenty of bigger water. Some 6.5 km away sits Sackville, the nearest settlement. Dartmouth is the closest city, 147 km away. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Westmorland County records list brook trout, yellow perch, American eel, white perch and white sucker among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Portey Pond gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The year swings from about -8°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around mid December. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That shapes the year on Portey Pond.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Johnson Lake is 3.9 km distant. Treat Portey Pond as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
