Heavy overcast holding through the day, with barely a breath of wind with a settled glass. Start the search at Johnson Lake along the weed line and any gaps in it. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

Look for Johnson Lake in the Westmorland County part of New Brunswick. It sits 3.1 km in from the sea. It measures about 13 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Bank access stretches around 2.5 km in total. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our New Brunswick listings. Sackville at 10 km is the nearest place to stop. The nearest city of size is Dartmouth, 146 km away. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Records held for Westmorland County cover brook trout, yellow perch, American eel, white perch and white sucker. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Johnson Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -8°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. On average, mid April opens the water and mid December closes it again. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That shapes the year on Johnson Lake.
We hold no note on access for this one. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. For a change of water, Portey Pond is 3.9 km distant. What applies at Johnson Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
