Solid cloud cover today, with mild air moving in from the WSW and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Yoho Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Look for Yoho Lake in Columbia-Shuswap Regional District, British Columbia. Beyond the shoreline you have lake country bush. It covers about 3 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. On size it sits at the modest end of our Columbia-Shuswap Regional District list. Start from Lake Louise, 22 km down the road. Further out sit Golden (39 km) and Banff (72 km). Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Columbia-Shuswap Regional District cover sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, bull trout, brook trout and rainbow trout. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Yoho Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Average temperature peaks around 11°C in August and bottoms out near -14°C in January. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Break-up comes around mid May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid May until roughly early November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Yoho Lake rarely departs from it.
No access rule appears in what we hold. There is camping recorded roughly 90 m off. There are toilets 180 m off. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Emerald Lake is 4.8 km off. For Yoho Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
