Light moving in and out all day, with flat calm through the day and no real change in pressure. On Wassie Lake, work the shallows early and the drop later first. Numbers are low everywhere; the evening is the pick of them. Lower the pace and stay patient. A properly cold day, so expect slow, deliberate fishing.

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako end of British Columbia holds Wassie Lake. This is mixed forest country. Small at around 5 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako standards. Supplies mean a trip to Mackenzie, 108 km off. Further out sit Fort St. James (142 km) and Burns Lake (179 km). The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako include sockeye salmon, Coho salmon and Chinook salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Fish Wassie Lake to its features, not to its size.
In an average year July sits at 12°C and January at -14°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about early November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. On Wassie Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Ah Lock Lake, 1.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Wassie Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
