An even grey lid over the water, with an easy breeze from the E and no real change in pressure. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Uncha Lake. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Bundle up; the fishing will be slow but not impossible.

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako end of British Columbia holds Uncha Lake. Height above sea level is 768 metres. This is big water, about 13.66 sq km, and in a wind it behaves like a small sea. It ranks high for size among our Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako listings. Burns Lake is the closest place, 36 km off. After that come Houston at 88 km and Vanderhoof at 104 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon, pink salmon and Chum salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Fish Uncha Lake to its features, not to its size.
Expect July to average close to 14°C, with January the cold end at about -11°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near mid April. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Uncha Lake.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Edlund Lake sits 5.8 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Uncha Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
