Overcast skies today, with stillness over the whole water with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Uduk Lake should come off points where shallow meets deep. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the morning. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Uduk Lake lies within the bounds of Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, British Columbia. It lies 1,091 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 2.56 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Around 14 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. On our Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako list it sits near the top for size. For supplies, Burns Lake is 74 km out. Kamloops is the closest city, 506 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Survey and observation records for Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako include sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon, pink salmon and Chum salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Uduk Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
The seasonal spread runs -10°C to 12°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. At Uduk Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Chief Louis Lake at 5.4 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Uduk Lake in what we hold.
