Light moving in and out all day, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure going nowhere. The fish at Thutade Lake are likely to sit near the seam between weed and open water. One clear peak today: the evening. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

Thutade Lake falls in Stikine Region, part of British Columbia. Elevation runs to 1,117 metres. At roughly 56.84 sq km it ranks among the larger waters in the region. The water reaches back into a network of arms, each one worth a session of its own. Size puts it in the front rank of our Stikine Region list. For supplies, Smithers is 234 km out. Kamloops is the closest city, 817 km away. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Stikine Region: Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon and Coho salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Thutade Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Average temperature peaks around 10°C in July and bottoms out near -15°C in January. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near mid May. Climate figures give an open season running mid May to late October. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. The season on Thutade Lake follows the weather closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Thorne Lake is 17 km distant. Signs at Thutade Lake carry more weight than any list.
