Wintry showers moving through today, with light air out of the N and pressure sitting still. Fish at Thirsk Lake should hold close to the shallows early and the drop later. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

You will find Thirsk Lake in Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, British Columbia. The ground round it is pine and birch. At about 58 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 4.0 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Peachland sits 26 km from here and is the nearest stop. The big place round here is Kelowna, 48 km distant. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen records list sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, Coho salmon, common carp and Chinook salmon among the fish reported. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. At Thirsk Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Expect August to average close to 14°C, with December the cold end at about -7°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Count the season from break-up, usually mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Expect Thirsk Lake to follow that timing.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Kathleen Lake is 2.6 km off. Check the position on Thirsk Lake before loading the car.
