A mix of sun and cloud over the water, with hardly a ripple anywhere with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Tatogga Lake around inflow corners and shaded margins. Make the evening the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. A properly cold day, so expect slow, deliberate fishing.

Look for Tatogga Lake in Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, British Columbia. The surface lies 823 metres up. This is sizeable water at about 2.82 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The perimeter runs near 11 km, so plan the walk before you start. Size puts it in the front rank of our Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine list. 198 km away sits Wrangell, the nearest town. Petersburg lies 203 km off, Juneau another 267 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name pink salmon, Chum salmon, Coho salmon, sockeye salmon and Chinook salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The near bank of Tatogga Lake is often the one people ignore.
The range across the year is -12°C to 12°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. From about early May to around early November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Tatogga Lake.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Eddontenajon Lake at 7.1 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Tatogga Lake before loading the car.
