Rain moving through today, with enough NNW wind to stack food downwind and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Taginchil Lake should hold close to structure within a cast of the bank. Quiet conditions all day, with the evening marginally better. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Regional District of Fraser-Fort George in British Columbia is where Taginchil Lake sits. It lies 733 metres above sea level. It measures some 1.02 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. With 14 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Prince George lies 41 km from the water. Beyond it, Vanderhoof at 50 km and Fort St. James at 74 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Regional District of Fraser-Fort George include Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, mountain whitefish and rainbow trout. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Taginchil Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Climate records put July near 15°C and January near -10°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. The lid usually goes in mid April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Ice clears near mid April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Taginchil Lake more years than not.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Fire Lake is 3.7 km off. For Taginchil Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
