A clear night sky over the water, with air barely moving with the glass holding level. On Swan Lake, work inflow corners and shaded margins first. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Capital Regional District in British Columbia is where Swan Lake sits. It sits at 12 metres above sea level. It covers about 9 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is low-lying compared with other British Columbia water we list. The closest town, Saanich Core, is 1 km away. Victoria sits 3 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. The tide is the timetable on this water; two hours either side of the change usually fish hardest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Swan Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in August and bottoms out near 4°C in January. Cooler months are the productive ones on most of this water. The first and last hours carry the summer; the middle is slow. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. The season on Swan Lake follows the weather closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. A parking area is marked roughly 170 m out. Mapping shows a jetty some 80 m off. A picnic site 540 m off makes this workable with family in tow. There are toilets 920 m off. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Blenkinsop Lake at 2.3 km is the nearest alternative. What applies at Swan Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
