A bright day with hardly any cloud, with light air out of the N and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Sue Lake should hold close to bays that hold the day's warmth. Block out the hours from night into morning. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

You will find Sue Lake in North Coast Regional District, British Columbia. Elevation runs to 166 metres. Roughly 14 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The bank runs about 1.6 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Our North Coast Regional District list holds plenty of bigger water. Supplies mean a trip to Prince Rupert, 161 km off. Beyond it, Metlakatla at 199 km and Ketchikan at 221 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth figures are not published for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across North Coast Regional District include pink salmon, Coho salmon and Chum salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Sue Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-term averages put August at about 13°C and January near 2°C. Most months fish reasonably, given the right weather. Cover comes and goes, so treat it with suspicion rather than trust. The cooler months are the comfortable ones to fish here. The season on Sue Lake follows the weather closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Feather Lake, 8.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Sue Lake.
