A bright day with hardly any cloud, with a kind NE breeze on the water with the glass holding level. On Smoker Lake, work shallow cover and weed edges first. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Smoker Lake falls in Central Coast Regional District, part of British Columbia. Height above sea level is 793 metres. Around 55 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. About 4.1 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Some 95 km away sits Port Hardy, the nearest settlement. It is 385 km to Vancouver, the nearest city. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Central Coast Regional District records list Chum salmon, pink salmon and Coho salmon among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Smoker Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
August runs about 12°C on average, January about -1°C. A lid forms in a hard winter only. In milder years the edges alone go, and the middle never sets. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Expect Smoker Lake to follow that timing. Overcast days spread the fishing across more hours.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Klonas Lake sits 8.1 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing on Smoker Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
