Dull, settled light over the water, with a gentle ripple from the N and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Skmana Lake along the shaded margin through bright spells. The best of it runs afternoon into evening. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

In British Columbia, Skmana Lake belongs to Thompson-Nicola Regional District. Height above sea level is 599 metres. The water covers some 12 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. About 1.6 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Chase sits 7.4 km from here and is the nearest stop. Sun Peaks follows at 13 km, then Sorrento at 18 km. A county boundary sits nearby, which can matter for local access rules.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Thompson-Nicola Regional District: Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, rainbow trout and pink salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. At Skmana Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Between January at about -6°C and August at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late March. Averages place the thaw at late March and the freeze at late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. It holds true on Skmana Lake more years than not.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. A campsite lies 290 m away for anyone staying over. Public toilets are recorded roughly 510 m off. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Banshee Lake is 3.2 km off. The position on Skmana Lake is worth confirming on the day.
