Light moving in and out all day, with a whisper of wind from the N with the glass holding level. The productive water at Rosemond Lake will be around bays that hold the day's warmth. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient.

You will find Rosemond Lake in Columbia-Shuswap Regional District, British Columbia. It sits in lake country bush country. At some 1.18 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. The outline measures near 5.2 km, so local knowledge counts. Size puts it in the front rank of our Columbia-Shuswap Regional District list. Grindrod is the closest place, 10 km off. Beyond it, Canoe at 13 km and Sicamous at 14 km. The county line runs close by, so rules can change within a short drive.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Columbia-Shuswap Regional District include sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, bull trout and brook trout. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Anyone new to Rosemond Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Between January at about -5°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Ice-out usually falls in late March, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late March until roughly early December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Anyone fishing Rosemond Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Overnight stays are possible 360 m away. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Mara Lake, 8.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position at Rosemond Lake before loading the car.
