Low mist over the surface today, with a faint S drift and no real change in pressure. The water to cover at Procyon Lake is inflow corners and shaded margins. The useful hours run the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Cold hands, careful casts: precision is everything today.

Procyon Lake is one of the Sunshine Coast Regional District waters in British Columbia. It sits 25 km in from the sea. Small at around 6 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Sunshine Coast Regional District list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest place of any size is Powell River, 86 km away. The nearest city of size is Vancouver, 155 km away. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Sunshine Coast Regional District cover Chum salmon, Coho salmon, pink salmon and sockeye salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Fish Procyon Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Averages move between -8°C in December and 9°C in August. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late May. From about late May to around early November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. On Procyon Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. The nearest alternative is Berm Lake, 1.9 km out. For Procyon Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
