Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with almost no wind to speak of with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Placer Lake should be near windblown banks where food collects. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Set in Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, British Columbia, this is Placer Lake. The ground round it is mixed forest. About 10 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. The edge runs 1.3 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Compared with other British Columbia water on our list, it sits high. Princeton at 39 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Keremeos (48 km) and Cawston (54 km). Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen include sockeye salmon, rainbow trout and Coho salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Read Placer Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
In an average year August sits at 12°C and December at -8°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Anyone fishing Placer Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. A campsite lies 240 m away for anyone staying over. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, Trapper Lake at 7.4 km is the nearest alternative. For Placer Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
