Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with calm air over the water and pressure sitting still. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Pearse Lake. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Comox Valley Regional District, British Columbia, this is Pearse Lake. Country round the bank runs to mixed woodland. The water covers some 11 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The whole outline is near 1.9 km, and most of it is walkable. Puntledge sits 17 km from the bank. Vancouver sits 163 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. This one is safely inside the county line.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Comox Valley Regional District records list Coho salmon, sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, Chum salmon and pink salmon among the fish reported. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. The near bank of Pearse Lake is often the one people ignore.
Climate records put August near 13°C and December near -1°C. Spring and autumn are the strongest, but nothing is truly closed. Some winters give nothing at all, so plan for open water. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. Pearse Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
We hold no note on access for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Douglas Lake sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Pearse Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
