A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with next to no ripple with the barometer flat. Fish at Obo Lake should hold close to sheltered bays and points. Bank on the evening and treat the rest as bonus. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cold hands, careful casts: precision is everything today.

Obo Lake is a Peace River Regional District water, in British Columbia. What surrounds it is boreal forest. Roughly 2.08 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. With 15 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Fort Nelson at 251 km is the nearest place to stop. Beyond it, Watson Lake at 259 km and Smithers at 356 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Peace River Regional District, recorded fish include mountain whitefish, longnose sucker and largescale sucker. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Anyone new to Obo Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Average temperature peaks around 11°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Once it clears, about mid May, the fishing comes on quickly. Averages suggest open water from about mid May through to roughly late October. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Obo Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Johiah Lake is 8.8 km off. Nothing on Obo Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
