Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a whisper of wind from the NE and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Moyie Lake should be near the first drop-off and weed lines. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Moyie Lake is listed under Regional District of East Kootenay, British Columbia. Land around it is mixed forest. At 5.93 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. Some 16 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. On our Regional District of East Kootenay list it sits near the top for size. Start from Cranbrook, 19 km down the road. The nearest city of size is Spokane, 220 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Regional District of East Kootenay: rainbow trout, mountain whitefish and sockeye salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Work Moyie Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Expect August to average close to 15°C, with January the cold end at about -8°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. After mid April the shallows warm and the fish move up. The water is typically free of ice between mid April and late November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Moyie Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Mineral Lake, 2.1 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Moyie Lake for certain.
