Soft grey light all day today, with air barely moving with the glass holding level. Fish at Minton Lake should hold close to reed fringes and open pockets. The day peaks in the evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

In British Columbia, Minton Lake falls inside Cariboo Regional District. Country round the bank runs to pine and birch. At about 10 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 1.5 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Our Cariboo Regional District list holds plenty of bigger water. The nearest place of any size is Williams Lake, 8.9 km away. Then 108 Mile Ranch, 69 km, and Hanceville, 74 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Cariboo Regional District cover sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon and bull trout. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Minton Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -8°C in January. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early April. Averages suggest open water from about early April through to roughly late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Minton Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. The nearest alternative is Reservoir Lake, 4.3 km out. What applies at Minton Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
