A clear night sky over the water, with stillness over the whole water with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in McKay Lake should be near the seam between weed and open water. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

McKay Lake lies within the bounds of Fraser Valley Regional District, British Columbia. Country round the bank runs to rolling hill. This is a pocket water of some 3 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Our Fraser Valley Regional District list holds plenty of bigger water. Hatzic is the closest place, 18 km off. Cedar Valley is 18 km away, with Mission at 20 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fraser Valley Regional District records list white sturgeon, sockeye salmon and Coho salmon among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The shape of McKay Lake decides where the fish sit.
The year swings from about 0°C in January to roughly 16°C in August. Temperature moves within a narrow band, and so does the fishing. Cover comes and goes, so treat it with suspicion rather than trust. April and May are the settled weeks, with October close behind. Expect McKay Lake to follow that timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Davis Lake, 2.7 km out. Where McKay Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
